We all have auto insurance in place to help us deal with the unexpected. A branch could fall and hit your car, you could lose control on an icy road, or you could be involved in a car-on-car collision. While we offer different kinds of policies to cover all of these situations and more, sometimes, just car insurance isn’t enough. On February 16th, two cars sat completely engulfed in flames on the eastbound 60 Freeway after an accident that occurred at roughly 5:45 that morning.
The accident took place near Monterey Park, creating widespread traffic problems in the area due to the closure of four lanes following the accident. Two lanes remained open as emergency responders attempted to extinguish the flames and save those involved in the accident. The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig alert shortly after the accident occurred, informing incoming traffic of the accident and lane closure.
Of the two people involved in the collision, only one perished in the fiery collision. Surprisingly, the other driver sustained only minor injuries, and the four lanes closed by the accident were reopened at roughly 9 that morning, only a little more than three hours after the accident originally occurred. Images and video of the accident show tall pillars of flame emanating from each vehicle after the collision and an alleged explosion. The driver that didn’t survive the accident was only 30 years old, and our thoughts go out to the friends and family of the deceased. It is still unclear which party was responsible for the accident.
